gcrk Well, I don't mind if we don't address problems of capitalism, ehhh.... "problems in practice" and work towards an utopian instead of helping spreading toxic principles of modern times.
Haha, just to be clear: I don't agree with the whole blog post, but I don't want to ignore some of the problems raised just because it is not how I imagine something. This point is actually interesting, and legitimate, whether it is a concern for funkwhale is another question.
I think it's difficult to argue when taking Twitter as an example (bad example). Wanting to grow a platform isn't necessarily evil, and this could be a concern with funkwhale. Having this options to filter possible harmful funkwhale instance can be relevant.
That said, I don't have any experience in hosting such a large instance.
gcrk A No-Go for me. I'd leave any project or platform that goes that path. This is exactly what made E-Mail a pain to host these days.
I understand your position, but we can't ignore the fact that email is also a pain with spam, phishing, and other stuff.
I happy to work towards an utopian idea, but I don't want to loose my energy because I ignored problems that might occur that get back at me.
I actually don't have a strong opinion here, I probably agree with your idea on this matter. I think the discussion is interesting also in terms of getting to know each other 🙂.
