We decide to give priority to best quality codec and bitrates. Unless a release is uploaded in batch with a minimum quality of mp3 320kbps (because this is enough for any home studio sound system)
I use FLAC and it allows multiple quality tiers. But I also for one know Opus 160k is comparable to MP3 320k CBR and is way smaller. AAC 256k is also comparable. Usually an user cannot tell these apart.
And also, I don't quite know what you mean with "enough for any home studio system". Some people have quite expensive setups using receivers and separately bought speakers, and the cheaper bundled home theater systems do not compare.
I can't speak from experience but I ask for you to elaborate, just to be clear about this topic.

This will depend on the pod admin (if he want to allow file not tagged with mbid). If the instances open to untaged mb files we could propose an option for the user to disable acoustid feature.
But some admins could allow files without MBID because they're not in the database. This doesn't mean they want to disable management of MBIDs altogether. The disambiguation is useful.

Too complex to keep up with maintenance-wise. Just do the files of a same library I think. And make sure the release MBID is present and matches as well, in addition to checking for the library the files are stored in.

What about files with recording MBID but no release MBID? Those should be left alone; there's a reason they don't have one, and that's a potential mismatch of the source audio. Different masters and bootlegs and dubious sources can screw up the music file organization if Funkwhale tries to guess everything using AcoustIDs and matching them to random releases.
We should make sure the admin can potentially figure out whether the files come from the same source, and mixing them up will make things harder. Your zero-input approach makes things harder for actual administration.

You did the same thing. I'm sorry for what I did, but the difference between you and me was that you had a nice attitude and I didn't.
