Hello,
I am using Picard to tag files before uploading them into funkwhale. I am also using some plugins to add custom tags, such as Genre and BPM. Is it possible to list/search/use this tags from funkwhale? I haven't found a way to do this yet. Thanks!

sowdust the tag should appears in the search results, you have a tag sub research in the search page : https://open.audio/search?q=dnb&type=tags&page=1. You can play all results.

each tag also have a dedivated page : https://open.audio/library/tags/DnB

you can also build radios based on tags filters : https://open.audio/library/radios/build. But it the same has tag result page, but the search is saved

Thank you for your reply. I know I can search for tags, but I am only able to see a subset of the audio files tags, usually corresponding to genre. For example, many audio files have the "Record label" tag with different values (i.e. "sowdust records").
Although these tags are embedded in the audio files, I do not see them in the "track info" page or anywhere else.
I would like to know if it is possible to search for all tracks with "sowdust records" as a value for "Record label" tag? I cannot find a way. Similarly, I would like to search for all songs having the "BPM" tag with value of, e.g., 120. Is it possible?
I hope I was more clear!

“Record label” tag is not implemented in Funkwhale. So no it's not possible to search for its content. I don't think we should handle this has a funkwhale tag since it very specific but we could, the discussion is open 🙂 Another option would be to implement a label feature, with a label page containing a list of artists. Maybe this could be linked to a label channel. Which is interesting. But this need to be designed.

I'm not aware of a bpm tag. It would be interesting to implement this but we need to have a list of bpm tag formats for each audio file type we support. Also I discussed this with some people of musicbrainz and we agreed that it's more complicated than it seems (various bpm detection algo / bpm can vary inside the track / various tag format ). Musicbrainz team is not willing to implement this at the moment. But i'm interested to build a specification for bpm in Funkwhale if you want to work on this 🙂

petitminion ok thank you very much for clarifying. Mine was an example, and I thought that since Picard is suggested as a tagging software and Picard handles those tags, all of them would be somehow stored in funkwhale database. I understand it is not so.
Talking specifically about the BPM tag, I thought that would be very useful in some scenarios (playlists to use in radios, dj sets... ). If you will work on it please let me know, if I have some time I would be happy to help!

sowdust I don't have time t work on this now but has I said we need list of bpm tag formats for each audio file type we support (FLAC,AIF,AIFF,Opus,AAC,OGG,MP3) if they exist.

We also need to think what to do if two user give different bpm data for the same track.
we need to look into third party project how the deal with bpm and if there is any standards around it

With this we could build a bpm filter on tracks, this filter could be used t generate radio, or get search results based on bpm.
