I'm uncertain if this is very much just the way I listen to music and hence quite a personal request, but I mainly listen to whole albums at a time, it'd be great to be able to easily move whole albums around in the playlist once they've been added, and to remove a whole album at a time.

Moved to the right section so we can pick it up. I don't think thats already discussed already. Lets wait if this gains some interest 🙂

    Hi MattDHarding,

We've been wanting to allow to skip whole albums from the queue (am I right your suggestion is about handling the player queue?), so that would do for the remove part. So far we never considered easing things for reordering per albums, so I would be curious to know if there are other people interested as well.

      Hi mjourdan

Yes I'm speaking about the player queue. Any albums that have been added to the queue would have some sort of extra "grouping" feature, allowing you to easily drag that group of songs around in the playlist. And the ability to remove this whole group at once.
Further to this perhaps there might even be the ability to group arbitrary songs together using this feature too. Then playlist operations could be carried out on the group.
Ideally this wouldn't interfere with any of the functionality you get now for individual songs, I envisage the playlist still showing a list of the songs with the ability to carry out all the operations you can today.

Does this make a little more sense? (I'm not terribly well skilled in graphics else I'd try and whack together some ideas).

MattDHarding That's clear to me, thanks. I know of Lollypop which aims to manage full albums in queue. Do you have any prior art of other players doing such things?

mjourdan Your question made me think about this a little more. I guess I'm thinking back to when I used foobar and you could multi-select a bunch of songs and delete them and move them around.
Then I realised that this is actually perhaps a better answer to what I want, I just want the ability to be able to multi-select stuff from the queue and either delete or drag them to a different place in the queue as one. I don't think the queue needs to know they are a group, the user can just select multiple entries and do what they want. I always tend to over-complicate things!

Sounds reasonnable. In the queue, album art and artist name should allow for easy human recognition of groups in most cases anyway.

Multi-track selection is something we've been willing to bring for some time, with keyboard controls (shift, ctrl) in addition to pointer support. We would like to bring this basically to everywhere there is a list of tracks: album page, playlist page, queue… I can't tell yet when this should be available though.

            I feel you!

              Yea I agree with this.

              Keyboard controls would be awesome.

No worries I am a patient person. I might even get back to helping with some code when I get done with my current personal project and get some time 🙂

gcrk changed the title to Batch actions in the queue .

I renamed the thread to make it more clear what this is about. If you think its missing the point, let me know!

gcrk No I think this is all good and gets to the point far better than I started out 😉
