Music for Funkwhale demo site

Hi everyone o/

As you're probably aware, we run a demo instance of Funkwhale to showcase the software and let people play around with it before signing up or starting a pod. We host a small collection of music and podcasts on this instance to let users listen and experience the playback features firsthand.

We'd love to expand this collection with some music from the Funkwhale community so that this instance can also function as a nice showcase for content creators. If you're a musician who releases their music under a free license and would like to participate, please let us know!

We'll need to add it into our demo template (the site rebuilds itself every so often so any changes are overwritten).

Nomys_Tempar You don't need to register. We will take care for everything. The only requirement is that the music is licensed in a way we can distribute it. On the ages you linked I don't see any license information, did I missed it?

gcrk It looks like the linked music is all licensed under the Licence Art Libre.

Sporiff Indeed, the Libre Art Licence is in fact a free licence!

I'll have to add that Creative Commons are just a 'part' of the available online Libre Art.

gcrk The licences are on the album or tracks pages, not on the artist page on Dogmazic.net. This is because an album does not have necessarily all tracks under the same licence.

https://knsm.cc is all creative Commons music. Maybe we could add the music as remote library as knsm.cc has a funkwhale instance (https://listen.knsm.cc)

Nomys_Tempar Yep! Funkwhale has built-in support for the Licence Art Libre, so that's no problem 😃

@egon0 Having a remote instance available by default might be pretty nice for testing, thanks for the hint!

Hi there, I just recently heard of Funkwhale and actually I'm still a little confused. But I like the idea and I'm releasing my music under Creative Commons License ever since. So you might want to add the newest album (well, from 2020 that is) from my band. You can find it here:

Also I run the netlabel "der kleine grüne Würfel" (Link above) and am interested on how to get our whole catalogue on a funkwhale instance. I even thought about running an own instance, but at the moment, that seems a little bit too much for me.

Anyway, I keep further learning about funkwhale and see what happens.

fcstoffel as knsm.cc is/was also a creative commons centric netlabel that is in indefinite hiatus but I have a funkwhale instance running for it, I could offer you to put your complete back-catalogue to listen.knsm.cc.

Hey egon0 and gcrk, thank you for your kind invitation. And yes, everything is CC-Music, the older stuff is BY-NC-ND, some newer ones are BY-SA.

Now I have to choose between your instances, which is a bit tricky for me. So if I'm right, open.audio is a quite big instance with more users and probably a somewhat better technical performance, right? On the other hand, knsmc is from germany and I like the idea of the federated universe and not automatically stick with the "biggest" instance around. So does it make any difference, where I upload the music?

And may I ask, egon0, how do you technically run your instance?

At the moment our "catalog" is not that big. I estimate around 3 GB of mp3's.

fcstoffel I am not too sure if open.audio is so much more performant than knsm is, so feel free to go there to foster the distribution of the network. Additionally, building up some networking between netlabels seems to be a great idea! 🙂

We do have a catalog repo with some music. Maybe this catalog could be in sync with the music and podcasts that are available on the demo instance?

We use this repo for the data in gitpod deployments and it is currently lacking example podcasts, so I cannot test them while developing.

If we synced demo with that repo, and for example we implement audiobooks, they would be available in demo and gitpod right away

Hi, folks!

I just signed up and saw this post. All my music is under a CC Attribution Share-Alike license, and I have just released a new album, available on my Funkwhale instance: https://songs.thefishermenandthepriestess.com/library/albums/409/.

There's a couple of other albums in my instance as well, you're free to use it for the demo instance.
