'm from the South-East of England. I currently work for an IT support company or MSP. I discovered Funkwhale through the need for a replacement due to Google murdering Google Music, the better of the Music Lockers at the time from the corporate giants. This, was then the start of my journey down the self-hosted, decentralised rabbit hole.
It, uh, hasn't been smooth sailing. I'm sure some of you will have seen me in the matrix room destroying at least 2 or 3 instances, and then accidentally adding my entire library to open.audio....but, thanks to the excellent help I have managed to finally get my own instance up and running. Because of Funkwhale, I have also upgraded my home server setup, and then added Pleroma and Trilium to my stack, with Misskey coming later to replace Pleroma. And best of all, with being thrown in the deep end of linux, docker, and these projects, I have gained some knowledge which has allowed me to help others to get their pods up and running too.
I mainly now hang around the matrix channels and gitlab page to raise bugs and sometimes help out with issues setting up instances.
Finally, I just wanted to say thank you to the people hard at work to keep Funkwhale growing, developers and community members. I am excited for what's in the pipeline, and what's possible in the near future.
