As a big advocate of OpenSource, I was able to convince the team to use Funkwhale as our foundation.
We had a few months of sprinting to get the POC off the ground, aiming for a launch in sync with a live music festival. We made a lot of progress and got to know Funkwhale pretty intimately.
The vision and mission has started evolving as we've deepened our awareness of the Fediverse and the state of music industry. We are now interested in contributing our ideas to the upstream Funkwhale project. For now, let's call this featureset "Artist Collectives."
- Theming -- allowing more customization of the look and feel for each pod, giving artist collectives their own "vibe"
- Compensation Strategies -- allowing artists to be compensated for their work in different ways
- Music Videos -- expanding beyond audio to include music videos
- Live Streaming -- embedding a "concert hall"
Again, thank you for your work. There would be a lot of cleaning up to do before these features would be ready for upstream integration. We are hoping to hear from the team and community about whether or not any of these features would be welcome contributions.
