Should I use Funkwhale and how?

I'm looking into the idea of setting up a music label on the Fediverse. I was doing some mock ups in Wordpress to see if the idea was feasible.

I was looking for a way to host files in a media player and stumbled upon Funkwhale. I'm under the impression that this is what I need to host a donation based music label

From what I read in the documentation I will need to create another droplet with my host Digitalocean to create an instance

But from here on it starts to get murky as I would want my friends to be able to sign up via the Wordpress site and login from the Wordpress site to access the instance.

As I want to get the costs down as much as possible I was wondering how this will work with WP membership plugins like MemberPress? Do I need a license for multiple sites?

Anyone got suggestions how to set up a donation based music label on the Fediverse?

I don't know the tools you're refering to but I suppose you could use an ldap server and manage funkwhale acces though it

From what I can tell, part of your requirements are that only people who have registered to your Wordpress site will have access to your Pod. At the moment, I do not think there is a way you will be able to enforce that unless something like LDAP is used? I do not think you will be able to use memberpress or other WP specific plugins unfortunately.

Everyone should have access to the pod to listen but not everyone should be able to upload to the pod. I want to put uploaders behind a WP member wall

Antwerpo In that case then having API requires authentication set to false will make your pod public, leaving the challenge of streamlining your sign up process.

I don't think it's needed to requier authentification from the API since this will block federation. I would let the api open.
There is various option here :

Only allow WP member to create an account, setup the user upload quota to the value you want.
Allow everyone to create an account, setup the default upload quota to 0. Give wp user another quota thanks to a script for example
AFAIK there is no way to easily setup a upload quota only for ldap user. But surely depending on your config there is a way of scripting this using the fw api and ldap.
