I'm sorry @gcrk but I am not agressive. I'm simply stating and restating facts that you do not seem to be seeing. To clarify, I did not set an avatar coming here: I simply logged in using my existing gitlab account. I did not receive your posts as welcoming, despite the nice words and phrasing, since your intention was to put me back in line ; especially after I mentioned the pre-existence of the avatar to your rules, you did not even mention this argument, instead you started explaining me how I should behave. Weird accusations?
In my first post I mentioned there was an issue here before. I made a mistake, and I was driven out by continuous attack even after apologizing. I'm coming back here with good intentions and the first thing I receive is more pressure. I spend time creating these avatars to match the local environment and reflect a diversity of facets. Being dismissed like that is just hurting. What gives you the right to talk to me like this?
Here is my problem. You come to me from a position of power with a suspicion of malevolence. Instead you could have come to me from a position of equality and state the fact that having the logo in my avatar can make people think that I am talking in the name of the project. I could have grasped this perfectly. But the way you're using your power is actually against the spirit of this community IMO.
I think the problem is generic to free software communities, and I must say, because you might not know, that I have been very appreciative of the way @agate led this community at the beginning. She made something solid and beautiful. But you must understand that escaping « the norm » by creating « our norms » can be a dangerous path if it's not made a side-step and instead becomes a turnaround, where you project unto others « the norm », and end up polarizing the relations and reproducing « the norm ». I find it worrying that we, in the software communit·y·ies, would resort to polarization and power instead of careful understanding and care for each other.
Now that I seem to have gotten your point -- hopefully -- I am willing to make an effort and change my avatar. But it was not on my agenda to do so, and I would have preferred it came not as a « welcome » but as a more general inquiry.
Here is a copy of the old avatar for reference: https://zoethical.org/img/how_avatar_funkwhale.png
