Since I removed all permissions from Gitlab in favor of a new process to get them as noted in our new Statutes a lot of people lost their permissions, which is obviously stopping them from working at Funkwhale. Thats a bad situation and we need to fix this situation as soon as possible. Its the pain of a huge transition and I am really sorry about any inconveniences arising.
I can imagine not everyone wants to read those rules, I don't want to 😉, so I am summarizing the situation.
Each permission is granted to a specific working group. Please check the pad for a description of the core working groups. The steering group owns the Funkwhale group in Gitlab, the developer group is, guess what, developer and the other groups have their own groups to create repositories in (eg the Infrastructure group has private repositories containing server configs).
Please note, group memberships can only be granted to members of the collective. Everyone who was former member of the association and already has an account in the Forums is already places in the members group. If you are not yet and want to be, post and introduction post in the Community area and leave a note there you want to get membership status. Everyone is welcome who is interested in shaping the future of Funkwhale 💓
In the membership area you can setup a thread with your application for a group membership, where members of the steering committee can add a poll for the whole community to decide upon.
I am aware this looks like overhead right now, but I am sure this process is much less work than what we had before, with yearly, formal elections and throwing around permissions at Gitlab all the time.
Thanks! If there are open questions, let me know!
