I have an idea in mind which I just want to write down to get rid of the topic circling in my head.
I want to have a Funkwhale Meetup some day. There are some ideas in my head about this.
At first some reasons why this can be really cool:
- There are a lot of nice and interesting people around and I want to meet you in person!
- Having a meetup with a lot of time to think about a vision for the project can be really productive.
- We can have small hacking sessions to help people get started with development or whatever.
- This can be a huge oportunity to get connected to other projects.
So one idea I have is to just find a convention or something like that and just meet there. Its easy to organize and quite cheap and we can come together and learn to know each other. Its also really nice for some networking. On the other hand this lacks the options to have our own formats like hands-on-sessions or long considerations where to go with the project.
So another idea would be to find a place where we can meet, bring people there and spend a weekend together. This would be a lot of work, there is a lot to consider. We need to make sure everyone who wants can apply, this means we need to be inclusive (provide fundings for train tickets, maybe organize some child care so parents can apply, pick the right location so everybody is able to enter ...). This way we can organize our own sessions, depending on who wants to apply.
I would also enjoy listening to some free music together.
In my opinion the current situation does not allow us to have this kind of gathering. Everything we would need to do to make this save would result into being less inclusive. Maybe its possible to organize something for 2022. So currently there is much we can do, besides sharing visions and talk about what we want or don't want.
